Montana (MT) Permits Validity, Restrictions and Operating Time
Montana (MT) Permits Validity: Montana (MT) oversize permits are valid for 3 to 5 days.
Montana (MT) Operating Time: Continuous travel is permitted throughout daylight hours between half an hour before sunrise and half an hour after sunset, including weekends. For weights up to 10 feet wide, 15 feet 6 inches high, and 110 feet long. Only Red Route routes are permitted to transport load more than 18 feet in width, 18 feet in height, or 120 feet in length. On two-lane highways, DW21 and 5 MPH conditions limit traffic during daylight hours.
Montana (MT) Restrictions on Travel: Travel on Red Route highways is restricted after 3:00 p.m. on Fridays and until sunrise on Saturday. If the load exceeds 10 feet in width, 14 feet 6 inches in height, or 110 feet in length, transit is forbidden from 12:00 p.m. on Sunday to sunrise Monday. Travel restrictions apply to load wider than 18 feet, higher than 18 feet, or longer than 120 feet from 4:00 PM on Friday until Monday AM. The Red Route map may be seen online or at weigh stations. Loads of no more than 10 feet wide, 14 feet 6 inches high, or 110 feet long are usually permitted for holiday travel.
Seasonal Restriction on Travel: Spring thaw restrictions may apply to specific roads between February and May. Interstate routes are typically not impacted.
